Here are few of Cebuano Idioms
If you think only English have idioms (as in officially taught in schools), Cebuano or Bisaya have it’s own set of idiomatic expressions too! (Basta bisaya dili papere). We have also added funny Bisaya idioms.
Abtik pa sa manatad – act very quickly
Hubagang ate oi – a sexy lady
Pasayan – great looking body but ugly face
Kabayoon – elongated face
Labsong (Love song) labaw’g suwang – elongated face
Kandingon – a person who won’t take a bath
Ang gaba dili magsaba – karma
Naa pa sa itlog sa papa – not yet born
Ang kalimot way gahom – being forgetfulness
Babayeng’ mugbo ug lupad – prostitute
Kapugngan pa ang baha nungka ang gugma – unstoppable
Kusog pa sa kilat – quick enough
Makabuhig patay – a convincing story (most likely, not true)
Laa og baba – mouth utters words that mostly happens
Ngitngit pa sa alkitran – the future is vague; it won’t happen; similar to Pagputi sa uwak
Pagputi sa uwak – it won’t happen; or happens only once in a bluemoon
Bisan ang ulan may paglurang – everything has an end
Panahon pa ni Mampor – centuries ago
Mapugngan pay baha – nothing can stop
Usab pay layog – never; not a chance
Mat’an pa sa pinya – can notice everything
Gubot pa sa lukot – very tangled; untidy
Pila’y pa’ad sa pungkol – everyone lucky day
Naa na sa ko pahak – I already know it
Katagakon ang mata – too sleepy
Naa na sa akong pahak – I already know it
Maypag mag lana ug putot – it wont happen; not a chance
Way aso nga makumkom – nothing can be hidden forever
Imung buhok murag balay sa ok-ok – you didn’t comb, your hair is so messy
Baga ug nawong – someone is ungrateful, no shame
