Common Waray words and phrases for daily conversation

Waray language or Waray-waray is spoken by the people mostly in Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines. Islands like Samar, Leyte, and Biliran. It is also spoken in some parts of Masbate, southern Sorsogon, and Gibusong Island of Mindanao.

1. Maupay nga aga – good morning
2. Maupay nga udto – good noon
3. Maupay nga kulop – good afternoon
4. Maupay nga gab-i – good evening
5. Salamat hin damo – thanks a lot
6. Maupay! Papalita daw. – Tao po, pabili nga/ Anyone there? I’d like to buy please.
7. Kana, pangaon kita – Tara, kain tayo/ Come, let’s eat!
8. Bulig hit sarayaw! – Sali ka sa sayawan!/Come, join the dancing!

3. “Ano it imo ngaran?” = “What is your name?”
4. “Kamusta ka?” = “How are you?”
5. “Maupay man, salamat.” = “I’m fine, thank you.”
6. “Taga-diin ka?” = “Where are you from?”
11. “Damo nga salamat!” = “Thank you so much!”
12. “Paghirot!” = “Take care!”
13. “Padayon!” = “Keep going!”
14. “Wait for me” = “Hulta ak”
15. “Pasayloa ko!” = “I’m sorry!”
16. “Nahihidlaw na ak ha imo.” = “I miss you.”
24. “Diri ak maaram / Ambot” = “I don’t know”
25. “Tagpira it pasahe?” = “How much is the fare?”
26. “Lugar!” / “Para!” / “Didi la!” = “I’ll get off here!” / “I’ll stop here!”
27. “Hain ka yana?” = “Where are you now?”
28. “Makain ka?” = “Where are you going?”
31. “Pwede ak umupod?” = “Can I come with you?”
34. “Ano ini?” / ”Ano iton?” = “What’s this?” / “What’s that?”
35. “Tagpira?” = “How much?”
37. “Pangaon kita!” = “Let’s eat!”
36. “Marasa man ini!” = “This is delicious!”
41. “Busog na ak!” = “I’m already full!”
